about

This single was the first recording done after a six year hiatus due to a debilitating illness Mickelson suffered with. Also during that period bassist Robin Hildebrant severley cut his hand on a table saw resulting in two surgeries. Creating “New Orleans” was an experiment in arrangement as well as a vehicle to learn how to engineer with Logic Pro. Up until this song FAT OPIE had always worked with professional engineers and studios. The song was a revamped version of a song Mickelson wrote many years earlier. It was in Hildebrant's tiny studio that FAT OPIE reinvented themselves as independent engineers and was the beginning of a whole new chapter in their history.

“New Orleans” led to an international distribution deal.
